SAFIN V.S HEWITT TO PLAY AT 7 P.M. MONDAY NIGHT!

Defending champion Lleyton Hewitt has to play Marat Safin another former number one player in the world in the first round tomorrow. This game that is to be played Monday at 7 p.m. is to be considered a final due to the quality of both players. Lleyton didn’t come to this year’s tournament with a lot of wins but coming in with the thought that he had won this tournament last year gives him great confidence. Hewitt is currently 18 in the world and is the second seed in the tournament. In the late afternoon today I had the luxury to speak with former Australian Open Champion Marat Safin. “I am feeling pretty good in playing Lleyton tomorrow and this year the weather is better so that helps my game”, commented Safin. He also stated that he is feeling strong and that he is waiting for his best days in tennis yet to come. According to atptennis.com these players are 6-6 against each other so this would determine who would have a winning record over another.

CANAS IN GREAT SHAPE...BUT UPSET WITH WIND

Fourth seed Guillermo Canas trained Sunday morning and as always showed his stamina on court. This is Guillermo’s first time in Vegas and is delighted to have many of his countrymen from Argentina playing with him. Canas is playing this tournament to be ready in the best way possible for Indian Wells and Miami, in which both tournaments last year he beat number one in the world Roger Federer. After the morning practice Canas said “I am playing well, I hope for the best of luck in this tournament but the wind is really bothering me in training”. Canas is ranked twentieth in the world and at the moment is the second best Argentine player aside from David Nalbandian
HOW FOLEY AND DARLING GOT THE D.T.C. STARTED.

Fred Darling and Sandra Foley are the two main people who got the Darling Tennis Center started. They both received help from the County then committee of NTA. In Vegas there were only so many leagues for adults that at first the County was thinking of making a new one around the area of Sunset Park. Not only was this an issue but there weren’t enough courts in the Vegas community. This was going on for about 3 years then Fred Darling had received a call from the County that there were enough baseball fields and it was going in the right direction (since both Amanda and Stacy played baseball). But that they needed a little help financially to get a new tennis facility running which is where Fred came in and within a year the Amanda and Stacy Darling Tennis Center was constructed.
FIRST PRINCE NINTENDO WII VIRTUAL TENNIS TOUR INTRODUCED AT T.C.O.

We all play video games and this time the video game is tennis. For the first time ever Prince has brought one of their top selling sports games to a professional tennis tournament. Both Shaan Dholaka and Gil Mayron are people who are trying to get the word out to play this game Shaan is Mayron’s agent and couldn’t be happier with what they are doing now. Everywhere they go they have sanctioned tournaments to who ever wants to play and the winner receives a t-shirt. Mayron is the only undefeated player in America and is giving all the kids a shot to beat him for free. Youngster who attended the Tennis Channel Open spent most of their time playing Wii tennis to avoid the cold wind outside and to have a chance to mess around with friends.

PLAYER PARTY AT THE FULLEST

The player party hosted at the Las Vegas Hilton was great according to all of the players. People like Ken Saloman and Jon Vegosen loved the scenery of this player party and to them the hours passed by like minutes. The only thing that the players liked more than the venue was the food! After having a long days worth of training, gourmet Asian food twisting their tummies for hunger was what the players needed. Players like Sam Querrey, Fernando Gonzalez, John Isner, and Guillermo Canas had so much fun at this party that the court itself was off of their minds for the night. Coaches also had as much fun as the players; almost all of them were long time friends like Marty Hennessy and Larry Stefanki (former coach of McEnroe and present coach of Gonzalez). The most important attraction that the players gave in to the surrounding was probably the tranquil setting of party itself.

MUSIC BRINGS THE PEOPLE TOGETHER AT CONCERT

After the food and conversations at the player party were done with it was time to listen and enjoy the music! This took place across Benihanas inside the Hilton. Important people like Ken Saloman, David Edges, Rick White, and Ryan Wolfington all took a break and busted out the moves on the dance floor. All these people have put in so much work in their lives that they also need their own version of a player party. Before the concert began Ken Saloman from The Tennis Channel quoted, “Thanks to Las Vegas and its support we know have 500 million people watching The Tennis Channel”. Saloman later expressed that The Tennis Channel Open Tournament and any other affiliation with tennis in Vegas couldn’t have been done without friend Ryan Wolfington. Moments Later David Edges, the T.C.O. tournament director also had a perspective on the night. “It’s great to see players enjoying themselves and having fun, Vegas is a city where nothing is boring”, said Edges.
