The Excellence Team Exchange was created as a demonstration of one way in which NJTL chapters can contribute to Player Development outcomes. By selecting participants based on athletic ability and desire, without regard to race and income, the teams found talented youngsters who would otherwise not have been given the opportunity. First class coaching and tournament travel was provided by the grant and several players developed national rankings during the two year project. The culmination of the project was a training weekend where team members from either coast trained, competed, and learned from Team Agassi from the Agassi Boys & Girls Club in Las Vegas, NV-whose outcomes the Excellence Team concept was attempting to replicate. Teams came from two excellent NJTL chapters: the Junior Tennis Champions Center, in College Park, MD, and Youth Tennis San Diego, from San Diego, CA. In Las Vegas, the players received coaching inputs from new sources, played singles and doubles, and discussed "matters more important than tennis," as Arthur Ashe put it. Discussions between training session focused on decision making, leadership, Arthur Ashe, and the importance of a college education.

For 8 days Center Court at Red Rock Country Club represented everything that is great about our tennis community. The Lexus of Las Vegas Open $50,000 USTA Pro Circuit tournament brought players from all over the world.

Battling it out in front of her home town crowd was Asia Muhammad, surrounded by her coach, family, friends and supporters. Pouring their hearts out - were WTA tour professional women competing for the Lexus of Las Vegas Open $50,000 USTA Pro Circuit title. International tennis figures Gil Reyes and Darren Cahill came out to support Adidas player and No. 3 seed Sorana Cirstea who lost in the final to champion Varvara Lepchenko.

"Thanks to the efforts of Tournament Directors Tyler Weekes and Jordan Butler and their tournament committee Rob Wilner, Jessica Hirshon, Mike Coppenhaver and Chris Painter, professional tennis is back in Las Vegas in a big way!," said Ryan Wolfington Executive Director of USTA-Nevada. "The tennis community really came together to collectively make this event possible one captain, player, and volunteer at a time."

I just witnessed the best entertainment experience of my life. The Andre Agassi Grand Slam for Children musicians were all incredible, top-notch performers and the entertainment all of a sudden took on such meaning once Andre Agassi opened up his soul for everyone to see. It was an intimate bonding experience where we got a glance how Agassi is touching the lives of children, one now at West point, so confident and well spoken, another at Occidental standing tall, all giving speeches like the leaders of tomorrow, thanking the sold out crowd in awe.

The Andre Agassi Grand Slam for Children, produced by David Foster, somehow intertwined the Foundation, its Agassi Prep school and Andre Agassi Boys and Girls Club program, together meshing their accomplishments in the last 15 years in a musical and verbal tale that moved you to love humanity.

ATP greats Rick Leach and Scott Davis, both Grand Slam Champions, played in the 2010 Invitational Pro-Am at the Las Vegas Hilton. Event proceeds benefitted G Alex Foundation, enriching lives through tennis and wellness programs.

The event included clinics featuring Rick and Scott, and the pro-am tournament. Other pros included Dorian Geba, Adrin Himmelheber, Chris Painter, Denci Freeri from Las Vegas. Adrin Himmelheber and Ivan Friedmutter from Henderson defeated Rick Leach and Jon Jannotta in the finals.

LAS VEGAS, Nev., (Sept. 29, 2010) - Alexa Glatch doesn't know if she'll ever play at 100 percent physically again, but she reported on Wednesday that the bulging disk injury in her lower back felt "a thousand times better" than one year ago.

That's good news for Glatch and bad news for her future opponents, including the rest of the Round of 16 singles field remaining at the Lexus of Las Vegas Open where Glatch beat Mashona Washington, 6-3, 6-4, in the first round on Wednesday at the Red Rock Country Club.

Also on Wednesday, Las Vegas' Asia Muhammad, 19, opened up play upsetting No. 5 seeded Mariana Duque-Marino of Colombia, 6-1, 6-7 (2), 6-3. This victory is one of many times Muhammad has beaten top 100 players in the world. Muhammad has wins over Melanie Oudin and a number of top 60, 80 and 90 players in the world. Last year she beat the number 1 player in the world at the US OPEN Junior Grandslam.

"Hadrien has an 8 % chance of running again," uttered the Dr. to Hadrien Saperstein's father Mark.

I took a group of children to a national tournament in California. In the middle of the night Hadrien, now ranked top 40 in the United States, was in tremendous pain and shaking. I didn't know if it was from dehydration from that days match or a previous virus he fought a week earlier.

As the night went on, so did the pain. Hadrien called his dad to come get him. By the time Mark drove to pick him up and drove back to the Las Vegas Hospital, Hadrien had no feeling from the waste down, he was paralyzed.
