The Las Vegas Country Club was host to 150 Ladies Spring Weekday League players for this year's luncheon. The event began with a social hour and silent auction. The proceeds from the auction will help support USTA-Nevada programming, including junior programs in schools. While the first course was being served, the Ladies were entertained by Ellie Smith, a 12 year old singing sensation who will be performing the lead role in Annie and The Secret Garden this summer. The Master of Ceremonies for the annual Ladies Luncheon was Ryan Wolfington, Executive Director of the USTA/Nevada Tennis Association. Mary Maragos, District League Coordinator congratulated the following Champions and Finalists:

During the 1950's, the property now occupied by The Las Vegas Country Club was the site of a thoroughbred racetrack named Las Vegas Downs. When the racetrack went into bankruptcy, the property was purchased by an investor named Joe W. Brown.
Brown later sold it to Marvin Kratter of Nevada Equities who proceeded to build the country club. The golf course was completed in the fall of 1967, followed by the completion of the clubhouse in April of 1968. Mr. Kratter opened it under the name of The Las Vegas International Country Club and operated it as such until he sold it to a Strip hotel named the Bonanza. The club was renamed The Bonanza Country Club and Corral. In late 1970, it was sold to four partners of Realty Holdings (Moe Dalitz, Harry Lahr, Nate Adelson and Irwin Molasky) who renamed it The Las Vegas Country Club, and made it a private country club in July of 1971 eventually making the club a true equity membership Club that has operated as such to this date.

USTA-Nevada and the Marty Hennessy Junior Foundation brought seven of their top juniors to Sun City McDonald Ranch Saturday, April 4, for a great morning of tennis action. The youngsters, who all hold national rankings in their respective age brackets, as well as above average academic standing, played three exhibition matches that really demonstrated their outstanding tennis skills and athleticism. Later the SCMR members joined the juniors in some doubles drills conducted by Ryan Wolfington, Executive Director of USTA-NV.

The wheelchair tennis tournament, sponsored by the Marty Hennessy Jr. Tennis Foundation last month went great. Played at the Darling Tennis Center 35 players from NV, CA, ID, CO, NM, AZ and 1 Canadian entered the event and played in 4 categories; Open, A, B and C division. Two local players won a division, John Ryan in Open and Bill Willhite in C, which was a great success. Although they only started with 3 players last year, they now have 10 active players and 6 juniors, attending practices.
