1984. That's the year the doors of The Meadows School opened. In the history of the school not once had the tennis team won the regional crown. In a school which is known for their high SAT scores rather than their set scores, competing in 4A high school tennis may have been a daunting task.
Fast forward 26 years to year 2010. The planets have aligned as the girl's tennis team has a stable of tennis thoroughbreds and a new coaching team led by former NCAA Champion and professional tennis player Tim Blenkiron, which also includes Hassan Humayun and Maggie Yahner.
Five members of the Meadows girls team have national rankings. They went through the school year undefeated and even more impressive is the margin of victory in the wins. The average score of each match was a whopping 17-1 going into the Sunset regional tournament.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV redshirt freshman Rene Ruegamer earned two titles on the final day of competition at the newly renamed Larry Easley Memorial Classic on a Halloween Sunday at Fertitta Tennis Complex.
Ruegamer, out of Wurzburg, Germany, rallied past teammate Alex Bull in the Flight Two singles championship, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2. Earlier in the day, Ruegamer teamed up with Bull to eke out a 9-8 victory over Rebels Mehdi Bouras and Bernard Schoeman for the doubles crown. The Rebel pairing of Charlie Alvarado and Kyle Lynch also won the doubles consolation final with an 8-5 win over Patrick Schimmelbauer and Hugo Ramadier of Northern Arizona 8-5.

The Men's 3.5 Division, USTA Adult League team from Dragon Ridge Country Club in Las Vegas will be representing the Intermountain Section as well as the Southern Nevada at the national league championships.
They had a perfect imperfect season by winning the USTA-Nevada District, then went on to play against the 6 Intermountain states. Among these 6 states the Dragon Ridge team took first place under the leadership of their captain Mike Dunworth Jr.Now he and his team will compete with the top 17 teams in the country to see who is the national champion. Mike will be joined by team members: Aaron Milmeister, Chris Heavy, Dave Wrobel, Eril Muller, George Kypreos, John Hou, Jon Afalla, Joseph DeSimone, Kevin Chang, Mike Pontillas, Minh Tran, Ken Merkey and Matt Wehe.

The Excellence Team Exchange was created as a demonstration of one way in which NJTL chapters can contribute to Player Development outcomes. By selecting participants based on athletic ability and desire, without regard to race and income, the teams found talented youngsters who would otherwise not have been given the opportunity. First class coaching and tournament travel was provided by the grant and several players developed national rankings during the two year project. The culmination of the project was a training weekend where team members from either coast trained, competed, and learned from Team Agassi from the Agassi Boys & Girls Club in Las Vegas, NV-whose outcomes the Excellence Team concept was attempting to replicate. Teams came from two excellent NJTL chapters: the Junior Tennis Champions Center, in College Park, MD, and Youth Tennis San Diego, from San Diego, CA. In Las Vegas, the players received coaching inputs from new sources, played singles and doubles, and discussed "matters more important than tennis," as Arthur Ashe put it. Discussions between training session focused on decision making, leadership, Arthur Ashe, and the importance of a college education.

For 8 days Center Court at Red Rock Country Club represented everything that is great about our tennis community. The Lexus of Las Vegas Open $50,000 USTA Pro Circuit tournament brought players from all over the world.
Battling it out in front of her home town crowd was Asia Muhammad, surrounded by her coach, family, friends and supporters. Pouring their hearts out - were WTA tour professional women competing for the Lexus of Las Vegas Open $50,000 USTA Pro Circuit title. International tennis figures Gil Reyes and Darren Cahill came out to support Adidas player and No. 3 seed Sorana Cirstea who lost in the final to champion Varvara Lepchenko.
"Thanks to the efforts of Tournament Directors Tyler Weekes and Jordan Butler and their tournament committee Rob Wilner, Jessica Hirshon, Mike Coppenhaver and Chris Painter, professional tennis is back in Las Vegas in a big way!," said Ryan Wolfington Executive Director of USTA-Nevada. "The tennis community really came together to collectively make this event possible one captain, player, and volunteer at a time."
